Trainee Recruitment Programme

In order to qualify as a solicitor, in addition to either a degree, usually in law, or membership of the Institute of Legal Executives, a trainee has to find a position with a firm of solicitors to undertake a Training Contract, allowing  the trainee to gain hands on experience in a firm environment supplementing the mainly academic knowledge gained so far.

The Training Contract period provides the opportunity for the trainee to work across different Departments the firm has to offer and decide which specialist area to choose moving forward.

In addition to the work experience you will gain, Laceys make it a priority to ensure you are well looked after during your training. Our proven track record of retaining our trainees once they have qualified reflects this.

All our trainees have received their Practising Certificates and we have enjoyed celebrating their success with them.

We normally recruit 2 trainee solicitors a year starting in September and applications are accepted during the June and July,  just over two years before the start date.  In addition, we also provide training for Legal Executives in various departments of the firm.

Please note our next available trainee position will be for 2022.  Applications will be accepted between 1st June 2020 – 1st August 2020.

At the start of June, please email Sam Freeman at s.freeman@laceyssolicitors.co.uk    He will then respond by sending our application form to you,  for completion by the deadline date.

  • “As a growing and highly regarded firm, Laceys has provided me with a fantastic start to my career. My training principal worked with me to form a training programme that not only suited the firm, but also took my interests into account. I experienced comprehensive training in every seat which gave me fantastic grounding to know the area I wanted to specialise in when qualified. I would certainly recommend Laceys to anyone looking to work in this profession.”

Ella Gould, Solicitor - Corporate and Commercial / Employment

  • “Laceys has provided me an excellent start to my career. My training contract was well structured but also flexible as I was able to choose the practice areas I wanted to gain experience in. I worked closely with a number of different partners and being able to discuss their practice areas with them in depth helped me decide the practice area I wanted to specialise into. The level of support I received throughout my training contract exceeded my expectations and since qualifying the level of support has continued. I look forward to progressing my career with Laceys and would recommend training with Laceys to anyone starting their legal career. ”

  • “I wanted to complete my training with a firm that had an excellent reputation, one which would give me a variety of experience in different practice areas and allow me to take responsibility for my own work. During my training Laceys has given me the freedom and flexibility to choose the seats that I wanted, enabling me to gain experience in those areas and correctly identify the right career path for me. I am looking forward to an exciting career at Laceys and would highly recommend applying here.”

Richard Ramshaw, Solicitor - Commercial Property

  • “I was attracted to Laceys by its fantastic reputation in the local area, of which I am now proud to be a part of. I feel that being a Laceys trainee provided me with the best possible start to my career. I had the opportunity to gain experience in a wide range of specialist areas and was fortunate to have worked alongside and learn from some fantastic lawyers. Once more, I was surrounded by a network of colleagues who were always friendly and approachable, which made for a perfect learning environment. Laceys is a forward thinking, ambitious firm and I would encourage anyone looking to pursue a career in law to train here. ”
